Each year, over 1,000 cities around the world throw citywide music celebrations on June 21.

It all started 39 years ago in France.

In 1982, France’s Ministry of Culture dreamed up an idea for a new kind of musical holiday. They imagined a day where free, live music would be everywhere: street corners and parks, rooftops and gardens, storefronts and mountaintops. unlike a typical music festival, anyone and everyone would be invited to join and play music, or host performances....The event would take place on the summer solstice, June 21, and would be called Fête De La Musique. (In French, the name means both “festival of music” and “make music!”)
In 2021, Akwa Ibom took part in a global celebration known as Make Music Akwa Ibom (Live from Home), which was organized under the larger umbrella of Make Music Lagos in Nigeria. This event was a part of Make Music Global Alliance, an organization based in New York that promotes the worldwide celebration of World Music Day. The aim of Make Music Akwa Ibom was to bring together musicians and music lovers to commemorate this special day. Various venues in Akwa Ibom, such as Tiger Bar Uyo, The Evening Church, Ibom International Airport, Monty Suite, TWC Studios, Hallelujah Entertainment, La Khush Studios, and others, have hosted the event. Throughout its duration, Make Music Akwa Ibom has welcomed numerous talented artists, including Sir Wilker Jackson, Sagas, Fonnie Emmanuel, Usimeke, O'Giver, Goldmint, LMVs, One Music Band, iNtenxity, MrDehniece, Blaqtymes, and many more. These artists have contributed to the vibrant and diverse music scene of Akwa Ibom, showcasing their talents and enriching the celebration with their performances.
